Be a part of this very gratifying community initiative and join us in making a difference in the lives of families and children all across Laurel and surrounding counties.

Opportunities to serve abound at the Shelter and there are many ways that you can be proactive in the journey to helping those in need achieve sustainability. Being involved in volunteer service at the Shelter is limited only by your creative spirit and willingness to help us build a strong community!

Certainly volunteers are the lifeblood of our program, and we work hard to make sure that each of our volunteer staff members have a very rewarding experience, while alsoserving to meet a need that we have at the Shelter. As time progresses, volunteering is becoming more and more organized at the Shelter. Our goal is to educate and cultivate proactive volunteers who truly are interested in building strong communities and helping us meet internal needs for the overall well being of our ministry.

Here are a few special skills that we are currently interested in:

  1. Activist Members for Management Committees. The Shelter depends on four primary committees to manage all of the behind-the-scenes work necessary to operate as a non-profit. These committees are as follows: Fundraising Committee, Public Relations Committee, Personnel Committee, and Finance Committee. Aside from these four central groups, there are often specially appointed committees which deal with special needs as they arise within our organization. We are always looking for true advocates who have complementary skills necessary for continued success in each of these areas of service.
  2. Administrative Assistance. There is consistently a need for additional basic design, word processing, filing, word processing, and fulfillment services in our administrative offices. While this opportunity isn't necessarily on the front lines, this is something that we have tremendous need for.
  3. Photography and/or Videography Services. We are always looking for creative people who might want to share their special talents by helping to capture special or surreal moments that help us share our story.
  4. Counseling Services. Providing assistance to our residents in the form of basic case management is crucial toward keeping them on track and headed for success.
  5. Big Brother/Sister/Family Mentors. "Adopting" a resident of a family to help them along their journey greatly improves the chances for rehabilitation success. This is not a firmly structured program; each opportunity is different based on the dynamics, individuals, personalities, etc. However, we do request that "hosts" attend a short, yet extended orientation prior to participation
  6. General Maintenance. Imagine having 50-60 people living in your home full time; you might imagine how difficult it could be to keep things running at optimal performance. Rarely do we experience major maintenance projects (knock on wood); however, there are, from time to time, many small things that need attention both on the interior and exterior of our Shelter.

If none of the above seem to align with your interests or skill sects, below are a few other areas of consideration where volunteer opportunities are also available:

  • Donation Center
  • Transportation Assistance
  • Meal Preparation & Serving
  • Bible Studies
  • Seasonal Activities
  • Special Projects
  • Student Opportunities
  • Community Garden
